More than techniques. We develop the martial artist. Pure Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, taught patiently and honestly, for every age and every body that steps on the mat.
A Carrollton Academy With a Gracie Lineage.
Machado Method Jiu-Jitsu Carrollton is led by Carlos Machado, an 8th Degree Coral Belt and the eldest of the five Machado brothers, Gracie cousins who trained under Grandmaster Carlos Gracie and were mentored by Rolls Gracie. Carlos brought his jiu-jitsu to the Dallas area in 1995 and has taught here ever since.
This is pure Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the real art. Carlos founded the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association and has produced black belts like Rafael Lovato Jr. and Travis Lutter. What you learn on this mat is taught the way it was meant to be passed down.
What makes students stay is not the building. It is the depth of the instruction, the honesty of the progression, and the fact that every student is treated as an individual on their own path.

More Than Techniques.
- Technique
- Jiu-jitsu is leverage and position, not force. We teach the details that let a smaller, calmer person prevail, the heart of the Machado method.
- Mindset
- Composure under pressure is trained, round by round. Students learn to stay calm, solve problems, and control their reactions instead of amplifying them.
- Respect
- Respect runs in both directions on the mat. Partners look out for each other, and that is what makes hard training safe and a community worth keeping.
- Lifestyle
- More than techniques. We develop the martial artist. Consistency, discipline, and the habits built on the mat carry into the rest of a student’s life.
What We Are Not.
- Not a McDojo.
- Belts are earned in front of the instructor, not handed out on a schedule. Students who are not ready do not test. The belt means something here, and students understand that from their first day on the mat.
- Safe to Train Hard.
- Jiu-jitsu has one of the lowest injury rates in martial arts and rewards technique and timing over force. That is what lets students train hard and keep training for years, from first-day beginners to lifelong competitors.
- Not a Watered-Down Franchise.
- This is the real Machado lineage, in person, in Carrollton, taught from the curriculum Carlos Machado has refined over thirty years. You are learning the source, not a copy of a copy.

Questions About Who We Are and How We Teach.
Who teaches at Machado Method Jiu-Jitsu Carrollton?
Carlos Machado runs this academy personally. He is an 8th Degree Coral Belt, the eldest of the five Machado brothers, and the founder of the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association. His curriculum shapes every class on the mat.
What style do you teach and why?
We teach pure Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: grappling and ground-game self-defense. It is one of the safest and most effective martial arts to train, it works without size or strength, and it is the art the Machado family has carried for generations.
What is the Machado lineage?
Carlos Machado trained under Grandmaster Carlos Gracie and was mentored by Rolls Gracie. He is the eldest of the five Machado brothers, Gracie cousins, and the founder and president of the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association. He has produced black belts including Rafael Lovato Jr. and Travis Lutter.
How long has Carlos Machado taught in the Dallas area?
Carlos brought his jiu-jitsu to the Dallas area in 1995, more than 30 years ago. The academy at 2201 Midway Road, Ste. 312, Carrollton, TX 75006 is where he teaches today, serving Carrollton and the surrounding DFW communities.
What is your approach to teaching kids?
Kids learn the same fundamentals scaled to their age, with an emphasis on focus, respect, and effort. Jiu-jitsu is one of the best anti-bullying tools a child can have, because it builds control and confidence instead of aggression. Kids are coached, not shamed, and the character development parents notice at home comes from a consistent environment where effort is what gets rewarded.
How do you handle different skill levels in one class?
The technique is the same for everyone, but partners, complexity, and resistance are calibrated per student. Beginners are welcome in every class and instructors meet students at their current level.
What is your belt testing process?
Belts are earned, not handed out. When a student demonstrates the technique, attitude, and consistency the next rank requires, they advance. Promotion is based on the instructor’s assessment, not a calendar.
