Grappling, Confidence, and Control for Ages 6 to 11

Basic at our Carrollton academy is kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for ages 6 to 11. Students learn positional control, escapes, and beginner submissions, the leverage-based grappling that has made BJJ one of the most studied martial arts in the world.

Jiu-jitsu rewards patience and problem-solving over size and strength. Kids gain body awareness, mental toughness, and a calm sense of capability they carry off the mat. It is also one of the most effective anti-bullying tools a child can have, because it teaches control instead of aggression.

Leverage Beats Size

Jiu-jitsu is the most studied martial art for smaller-than-average kids. Technique, not strength, decides outcomes on the mat. Students learn that quickly and carry it everywhere.

Lowest Injury Rate in Martial Arts

Live rolling is introduced progressively after technique is solid, and always supervised. Most kids train for years with nothing more than the occasional bump.

A Community That Earns Each Other's Respect

Jiu-jitsu requires partners who care about each other. The Basic room is a tight, respectful community where kids walk in nervous and within a month are checking on each other after class.

How We Build Kids

Built around how kids actually develop.

Every kids program keys in on the four stages of childhood development: Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social. We call it PIES. It is how we structure classes, design drills, and build the relationships that turn a shy four-year-old into a confident kid who walks into school with a quiet sense of who they are.

  • P Physical

Coordination, strength, control of the body.

  • I Intellectual

Focus, problem-solving, learning how to learn.

  • E Emotional

    Confidence, self-regulation, handling setbacks.

  • S Social

    Respect, teamwork, friendship across ages.

Before You Sign Up

Common questions about Basic in Carrollton, TX.

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in one sentence?

It is a grappling-based martial art that uses leverage and position so a smaller person can control a bigger one.

Is jiu-jitsu safe for kids?

Jiu-jitsu has one of the lowest injury rates of any martial art. Live rolling is introduced progressively after technique is solid, and always supervised. Most kids train for years with nothing more than the occasional bump.

Will jiu-jitsu help with bullying?

It helps in two ways. Kids gain the physical skill to stay calm and in control if a situation turns physical, and they gain the confidence that often stops bullying before it starts. The goal is never to make fighters. It is to raise kids who do not need to fight.
